5 Steps to Emotional Self-Care for Lightworkers

In the past few posts, I’ve talked about living slowly and mindfully, from a heart-centered place. Doing so makes emotional self-care easier, which is all about acknowledging and accepting your feelings.

As a lightworker, you dedicate your life to healing and being there for others, but how well do you take care of yourself emotionally? When you nurture your own emotional well-being, you create a grounded place from which to offer your gifts to the world.

5 Steps to Emotional Self-Care
for Lightworkers

As a lightworker, my goal is to maintain a high vibe and connect as often and as well as possible to my divine self. But these pesky thoughts and feelings come along, lowering the vibe!

Anger, judgment, fear, sadness, negative expectations, etc. They definitely lower your frequency.

How do we handle these experiences?

Here are 5 steps you can take for self-healing and emotional self-care when negative thoughts or feelings arise.

(1) Acknowledge and Accept Your Feelings

The first step is about acknowledging whatever you’re feeling, whether it's sadness, anger, or anxiety, without judgment.

What’s on your heart? Recognizing your feelings and accepting them is the first step on your path to healing.

Instead of avoiding your feelings, or trying to talk yourself out of them, allow them, and just be with them. This way, you create a safe space for processing your feelings.

One thing that might be helpful, is to grab your journal, and write about what you’re feeling.

(2) Breathe in Serenity, Breathe out Stress

Deep breathing can be a great way to come back to center, when stress or negative feelings come your way. Try it now. Take a moment to breathe in peace and breathe out anything negative you’ve experienced today.

Deep breathing is a great way to calm your nervous system and reduce anxiety. While you're focused on the rhythm of your breath, it creates a mindful moment that gives you a break from whatever is going on in your day.

(3) Discover What Soothes and Nurtures You

Listen to music, spend time in nature or do something creative that lights you up. Getting deeply involved in an activity you love will calm your mind, anchor you in the present moment, and give you time away from any worries or troubles.

And I encourage having several go-to activities you can easily make happen, that you know will be soothing.

You could even create a self-care basket that makes it easy to grab whatever you need.

For example, if you love to read (like I do), you could include your Kindle. You also could include your journal and a pen, a mug with a tea bag or anything else you want to have on hand.

(4) Speak Kindly to Yourself, with Love

Self-compassion goes a long way toward soothing yourself when you are experiencing negative feelings. And encouraging, supportive self-talk can help to counter negative thoughts, too.

Give yourself some love, remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can, and give yourself permission to feel what you feel.

(5) Create a Healing Routine

What rituals bring you peace?

Daily rituals such as guided meditations, journaling, and goddess breathing can be powerful practices that support your emotional self-care. They can help you connect deeply with your inner goddess, and be a resource for self-healing.

Visualizing yourself surrounded by healing light or engaging in mindful breathing exercises can help release tension and restore inner peace.

And anything you do to support your own emotional self-care will ripple out to the rest of the world.

How are you at allowing and accepting your negative feelings?

See you next time!

love, Jeanine

I love the idea of a self-care basket! Mine would probably include a miniature botte of Prosecco, a teddy bear, a few feel-good DVDs, fluffy socks and chocolate!

It seems akin to a 'put the mask on yourself before you can help others'. I try not to invalidate my own feelings, especially when I think I should feel a certain way but I'm not. A self-care basket sounds like a lovely idea.

Yes, definitely, Jodi! That sounds great. As you've said, we want to let go of the judgment, and just be there for ourselves no matter what we're feeling.

as a fellow, energetic healer, I can totally relate. Like the cobbler’s son who has no shoes our self-care needs to also be a priority so that we can continue to care for others.

Absolutely! We give so much to others but we must care for ourselves as well.

Great post Jeanine. I can definitely relate to the need to take care of yourself in order to be able to care for others. You can serve from an empty well. And, I loved the idea of the self-care basket. Mine would definitely include my kindle, a mug for a nice hot cup of tea and a soft blanket for cooler nights.

Thanks so much, Pam! Yes, as I wrote the post, I was visualizing a self-care basket for myself, too.
