Day Dreaming: How to Craft an Ideal Day from the Inside Out

1/6/2025

What if the first few moments of your morning weren't about planning what you need to do, but dreaming about how you want to feel? What if day dreaming could be a sacred practice - one that helps you create days filled with more comfort, peace, and joy?

Well, we talked about that a little bit last week. But let's keep that conversation going.

It's my goal to dream my day into being from now on, starting with the feeling I want to have. But if nothing else changes, I've already found that it's easy to forget that dream and get distracted by the details of your day.

So we should probably explore what it might look like to keep the dream alive all day long.

But first, let's dive deeper into what we're actually talking about and why it's so important.

Day Dreaming as a
Sacred Practice

To Do or to Be, that is the Question

Okay, first I want to mention the tyranny of the to-do list. I know it has its place.

For example, if I didn't write things down and remind myself of what needs to be done, it might never happen!

But we lock in too tightly to a day designed around that list and it's easy to forget that the day actually belongs to you. Not that piece of paper.

And bowing down to the list almost always leads to pressure, which often leads to rushing.

Slow down. And remember that you're in charge of what you experience each day.

It deserves a great start, where you focus more on who you want to be and how you want to feel, then what you want to do.

Why You Need the Slower, More Gentle Approach

As sensitive souls, we often absorb the energy and expectations of those around us. let's face it - they are often co-authors of our to-do lists.

So it's easy for our days to become overwhelmed by others' needs. But when we take these first quiet moments to dream into our day, we create an energy bubble of intention.

And this gentle practice will help us stay connected to our own rhythm, and our own needs, even as we move through our busy days.

Give Yourself Permission to Dream First

There's a voice in our culture that says that dreaming isn't practical or productive, so we should just jump straight into action. But for sensitive healers, this quiet dreaming time is essential medicine.

It's creating a template of peace that can guide our whole day. When we start with that day dream, we're actually setting ourselves up to move through our day with more grace and gentleness.

Your Morning Dreaming Ritual

Your morning ritual can be as brief as placing your hand on your heart and making a wish, or as elaborate as a ten-course meal. It's the practice of moving through your morning more slowly and deliberately, and taking the time to dream that's important, not how long it takes.

But I wholeheartedly encourage you to make it a moment of joy and delight. Steep yourself in coziness and comfort.

Start with a few deep breaths, a few sips of tea, or both. Breathe into the space that surrounds you and connect to what's there (your higher self, the divine, the frequency of love, etc.)

And then begin the day dreaming process, centered around how you want your day to feel.

I want to feel loved
I want to feel held
I want to feel peaceful
I want to experience joy and delight
I want to feel safe

Those are some examples. After choosing a feeling to focus on, see which ideas come to you about simple ways to create those feelings.

You can add to this ritual in any way you'd like before bringing it to a close. One thing you might do is create an affirmation based on the feeling you chose, like peace is always available to me.

From the Dream to Reality

The magic happens when we begin weaving these morning dreams into our actual day. This isn't about rigid planning - it's about creating gentle touchstones of comfort and peace.

If you dreamed of feeling peaceful, you might...

(1) Place a small crystal or stone on your desk as a reminder to pause and breathe

(2) Set a gentle timer to remind you to take comfort breaks

(3) Keep your favorite tea nearby for moments of sacred sipping

If you dreamed of feeling held and supported, try:
(1) Wrapping yourself in something soft when you need comfort

(2) Creating tiny sanctuary spaces in your home or workspace

(3) Taking a moment to feel your feet on the ground when things feel overwhelming
But I must remind you that this is about aligning with your intention, not perfectly living it out. Letting go of the outcome removes all the pressure of the perfectionistic standards we've all been taught to hold.

But your morning dreams do set the stage for the day you want to have. And you can create that day moment by moment as it unfolds.

When Your Days Don't Go
as Dreamed

As I suggested above: some days, life has other plans. The beautiful thing about day dreaming is that we can always return to it and start again.

When the day has veered wildly off course...
Take three gentle breaths
Place a hand on your heart
Tell yourself, "I can begin again right now"
Ask yourself, "What's one small way I can return to comfort?"

Even if the day's path looks different than you imagined, you can always find your way back to center.

You don't have to wait for tomorrow to realign with your vision of peace and comfort. You can pause, dream into the next moment, and begin again.

So, you might be thinking that basically, we're just talking about setting intentions. And intentions are at the heart of day dreaming.

But this dream is about how you want to experience and move through the day. It's a way to begin to create the peace and the comfort and the joy that you want, day by day.

So what do you think? Is day dreaming a morning practice you intend to try?

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine
