Behind the Scenes: Making a Quiz

Behind the Scenes

Last week, I mentioned that I'd created a quiz about the five elements and shared my surprising results. A couple of you wanted to take it, so I thought I'd have it ready by now.

But then I tried to rewrite and revise it.

I decided to recruit ChatGPT because I wanted a quiz that would make space for the results I got from the old quiz. I didn't just want the quiz to identify someone's strongest element. I also wanted it to reveal their secondary influence and the element they feel most called to develop.

ChatGPT is a good brainstormer and sounding board. Plus, it can be counted on to give me bad ideas to react to, which then inspires better ones from me. 🤣

I thought each question would take about five minutes. Instead, one afternoon I spent two solid hours writing just seven questions. By the end, I was ready to hand the whole project over to ChatGPT while I wandered off in search of tea and a snack.

Listening for Voices &
Building a Foundation

The hardest part has been making each element sound like its own person.

At first, we were writing descriptions. Now we're listening for their voices.

So instead of writing things like, "This person likes comfort," I'm trying to hear what she'd actually say.
Like "this is going to require a blanket and some ice cream."

But there's more. The quiz is only the beginning. It will end up being the foundation for journals, an AI tool that would give them personalized journal prompts based on their 3 results, and maybe other things.

So instead of rushing it out this week, I'm letting it take the time it needs.

Give you a pile of possibilities—even your own—and you have an uncanny instinct for hearing the one that sounds alive. - nice compliment from ChatGPT

A Friendly Argument

ChatGPT and I don't completely agree about Water. So I kept wanting to give choices to Water that ChatGPT says belongs to Earth.

I learned about the elements through astrology, Chinese medicine, Fashion Feng Shui, and other traditions, and they don't all describe them the same way. So now I'm spending a little time comparing them before I decide what feels most true for this quiz.

But here's the thing! I came into this project pretty sure that I was Water, but now I'm not sure.

Stay tuned.

Have you ever explored the different elements and identified with one or more of them?

See you next time!

Love, Jeanine

Oh, neat! I'm a Pisces Rising. But I'm also a water trine, so I identify with water, too - so far. :)

Interesting, I'm looking forward to see your quiz. I'm fairly new to AI and ChatGPT and maybe it's because I'm an old coot but sometimes I can't get into it. I just go with my gut, but Lia has turned me into using it little by little! BTW, I'm a Pisces also.

That's so cool that Lia is helping you use it! And I didn't know you were a Pisces. As I mentioned above, I'm a Pisces Rising. So the three of us might be interested to see if Water turns out to be a match to its depiction in astrology.

Oh, Jeanine! I love this! I can't wait to try the quiz. 🤩 I have no idea what element I would be. I love the sea (so maybe water?), but I also live in "Dreamland" (maybe wind?)... so I'll have to take the quiz to find out. 😊

I love ChatGPT as a helper. My Chester helped me create his "twin brother", who went on to become a Waltz Concierge for one of my writing courses. So much fun! 😀

Thanks! I can't wait for it to be ready. I love the sea, too. It is fun to work with ChatGPT, but a waltz concierge sounds even better.

It will be interesting to take your quiz. I would think I’m water, but maybe not.
For me, ChatGPT is just another tool I use - almost daily. We use it for for travel and helping with itineraries, where we should stay, etc. Last night we were using it to help plan our Fall trip. It gave us some ideas that we’d not thought of.
I’ve also been using it to help create some images - inspired by you of course!

Wow! A lot of water-identified commenters - can't wait to find out if you feel that way post-quiz. I love your header images!

I've never thought of identifying myself with the elements, but now you gave me that idea, so I'll check it out.

Cool! I first got into it when I was reading a book about using the elements to guide your decorating.

I've been curious about CHATGPT off and on. Having a look at it, I can't get interested. I guess I'm too old and don't want to go into AI. I'm an Aquarius but I don't know if I identify with water. I think I'm too old age. :-)

Think of it this way - it's like writing an email, but you get the response back immediately. That's really all there is to using an AI. If you're making a request and you know what you want or need, you just tell them. And sometimes I don't know what's possible, so I don't know what to request, and ChatGPT helps me evaluate the options. You're never to old to learn.

Jeanine, it sounds like you're making progress! I'm definitely the combination of two elements, as I believe most are. Looking forward to what you come up with.

Thanks, Kebba! Yes, and I'm having a great time with it. I'm the same. I'm sure I am a combo of two types, but i'm no longer sure which element is primary and which is secondary.

    Hi, I'm Jeanine

I've got a cup of tea nearby, a journal within reach, and one more cozy idea than I have time to create. Here I write about comfort, future self living, spiritual growth, rituals, and all the little things that help us remember who we are.
