Have you ever felt like you lost access to a part of yourself or a felt experience of who you thought you were? Well, I have had that experience several times and just recently was lamenting the sense of I already healed that or I already was that person, but now it's gone. And then I heard an internal fairy godmother voice say, "oh?" And I tried calling that version of myself back. When I did, I felt the shift. Try it yourself, with any part of you that you think you've lost, and see what happens. Love you guys! Jeanine

Almost everyone, at some point, feels like they have lost access to a past version of themselves. I’m in my 50s. I think I’ve lost some of my immediate, high-definition sensory experiences: boundless energy, sharp impulses, and a feeling of endless runway ahead. But losing access to a past self isn't necessarily a failure of memory or spirit; it's often just the natural pruning process of life.

Oh, you're making a very good point, Danwil! I wasn't thinking about the aging process. You can't call back the agility you had at 20. But you may be able to regain a sense of anticipation about the runway ahead. Even if it's shorter than it used to be. :)

I feel like that many times, sometimes "missing" the same piece (yes, like in a puzzle) over and over again; other times missing something I didn't think I could lose... Moving countries, living in a different culture - and aging, like Danwil said above - can do this to us. I do therapy, but sometimes (because we're human, right? ☺️) I lament...

Me, too - over here lamenting! But I'd never thought that I might be able to get some of those parts of me back.

Awww! That's lovely, Tamara. I think you're right - those parts of us are never really lost.

Oh neat! I believe that is happening with me, too. And it's wonderful to reconnect with that energy again.

I get what you’re saying Jeanine. There are moments I think to myself “when did I become so cynical?” or “When did I start taking life so seriously?” I do feel that, over time, parts of me have disappeared.

Jeanine, wow! You've started a pithy conversation. I do find that my soul is doing so much work various places that parts of my soul can wander about. So from time to time, I call them back, and I immediately feel the energy fly in. Plenty of time for the work. But that's different than calling back traits or energies we used to have. I had a lot of sadness to work through in earlier years. I dreamed of being happy, worked hard for it, and now I am it. I am so happy! I do love Tamara's idea of the bouquet, with different flowers in it, in different times of life. Still: much more to ponder here!

Ooooh! I hadn't quite gotten there yet. What an exciting idea! Like a meeting with your higher selves. :) I love that you've worked at being happy and made it. I have found that challenging, too, due to grief. And how wonderful to not be stuck there anymore.

Hi, I'm JeanineI've got a cup of tea nearby, a journal within reach, and one more cozy idea than I have time to create. Here I write about comfort, future self living, spiritual growth, rituals, and all the little things that help us remember who we are. Archives
